Toward sustainable smart agriculture in a developing country: An empirical analysis of green firms determinants

Journal: Business Ethics, the Environment & Responsibility

Publication Date: 2024-09-24

Description: Green entrepreneurship's role in achieving socio-economic and environmental objectives has garnered significant scholarly attention. Yet, the internal and external factors influencing green agricultural enterprises' growth and sustainability remain under-explored. This study aims to validate the Green Agriculture Support Framework (GASF), positing that strategic alignment of internal (technology, talent management) and external (formal institutions, government support, culture) support elements fosters green agriculture enterprise growth, particularly those leveraging Agriculture 4.0 technologies. Survey data from Pakistani green enterprise managers and employees were analyzed using structural equation modeling (SEM) with the partial least squares (PLS) approach in SmartPLS. Findings indicate that external variables significantly impact green enterprise development while internal factors have limited influence. Policymakers should focus on enhancing the external environment through intensive government support, less rigid formal institutions, entrepreneurial culture, and improved economic conditions. Internal factors like outdated technology and rigid talent management policies may hinder growth. This research contributes to the literature by providing empirical evidence supporting the organismic integration theory (OIT) and its implications for green policy development. Understanding these determinants assists in identifying areas requiring policymaker attention for effective green agricultural sector growth.

Strategizing for the Growth and Sustainability of Green Agriculture Enterprises: A Developing Country Perspective

Journal: UN IATT Policy Forum

Publication Date: 2023-05-04

Description: Owing to continuous environmental degradation, a significant global transition in the techno-economic paradigm is presently underway; that is to restructure as a green economy worldwide. These green transitions are driven by planned adjustments to institutions, policies, and strategies, which require a thorough understanding of the determinants of sustainable growth in fundamental industries, such as agriculture. This research draws insights from Pakistan by empirically testing the conceptual framework proposed by Savastano, Samo et al. (2022), which highlights the internal and external factors that contribute to the expansion of SMEs in green agriculture. This research helps to explore the difference in trajectories of the sector's green transformations, leading to valuable implications for green policies.

Toward a Conceptual Framework to Foster Green Entrepreneurship Growth in the Agriculture

Journal: MDPI Journal of Sustainability

Publication Date: 2022-03-30

Description: In recent times, the importance of green entrepreneurship in the socio-economic development, environmental management, and prosperity of underprivileged societies has widely been acknowledged by both academics and policymakers alike. Despite this importance, there is a lack of research on what the external and internal factors that support and foster the growth of green agricultural ventures are. This research aims to propose a framework suggesting factors that play a significant role in the flourishment of green enterprises, with a focus on developing countries. Through an extensive review and in-depth analysis of the existing literature in the fields of green entrepreneurship and agriculture, we propose a conceptual framework highlighting the internal and external factors that, when strategically aligned, foster the growth of green agricultural enterprises.

Journal: Journal of Global Entrepreneurship Research

Publication Date: 2019-02-01

Description: Academic Spin-off is receiving a growing attention in entrepreneurship research due to increase in the number of ventures coming out from academia working at universities. The role of triple helix is key among many factors that derive young researchers to establish new venture as an outcome of their research. Thus, there is a need to determine the factors that derive young researchers for venture creation in order to identify and understand the determinants of Academic Entrepreneurial Intention (AEI) and how they are influenced by different helices of Triple Helix Model (THM).
